Hi World, Gunjap Interviews today with Matt Mrozek aka mvm3897. Let’s Start!
[G: Gunjap]
[M: Matt Mrozek]
G – Who is Matt Mrozek in the Gunpla Modelers World? And where do you come from?
M – Well I am Matt Mrozek but people know by mvm3897 on the forums and YouTube. I am just a guy who loves to build models. I build Gundams 90% of the time but my collection includes Star Wars, Star Trek and many other subjects. I am addicted to resin. I would say I own 200 or more resin kits. I am from Plano, Texas in the States which is just north of Dallas
G – When did you start building Gunpla?
And when did you made your first Custom?
M -The very 1st time I saw a Gundam kit was at Walmart many, many years ago. I was probably 15 or so. I got serious about Gunpla in 2008 after I happened appon it by accident while surfing the internet. I spent about 8 months just trolling forums before I built my 1st kit which was a MG Sinanju. As far as customs, I really do not customize Gundam kits except for paint. The only real customization I have done was to make a resin anti gravity car acutely levitate back in 2010
G – Do you have some inspiration for your creations?
M -I have a ton of inspirations. Toy Maker is a huge one, Waylander, DC, Matt Tomczek, Mike Fichtenmayer and the list goes on.
G – After you have finished snap-fitting a model, from where do you start to mod it?
M – I don’t do mods really, although that is the next step for me. I usually just try to give my kits the best and most original paint scheme I can think of. After I pre build and get the kit in primer I just wing the color scheme. I look at the colors I have in my paint stash and start picking colors. Paint scheme may start out one thing in my head but change mid way through the build. I never pre-plan I just go with the flow.
G – What do you think about Gunpla in all the World? modelers, attitude, modelers behavior etc..
M – Gunpla is a unique hobby. I touches so many cultures and people. I have more friends in other countries than I do here at home because of Gunpla. I think that this hobby is so great. Rarely do you find someone who isn’t willing to help out someone who needs help. I get questions all the time and I do my best to answer them. I, at the same time have tons of questions and I always get an answer or I am pointed in a direction where I can find the information I am looking for. Modelers are a great group of people. We all love making small representations of large things. Most people who do not build models do not understand the fascination with modeling which brings us closer as a community. We all usually have the same interests outside of modeling as well. It could be cosplay, movies, video games, or music but it’s fun to see the similarities we share.
G – What do you think about GBWC Event?
M -I think the GBWC is a great event. I have yet to enter but plan on doing so next year. It’s always fun to see how your work stacks up against the best builders in the world. I think the rules are a bit confusing and I think Bandai should figure a way to bring some consistency across the board in each country. I hope to enter some day and make it to the finals and meet some of the builders I look up to in person. Maybe some day.
G – Please some advices for modelers that wanna start building a gunpla for the very first time!
M – I always give the same advise because it’s what worked for me, research, research, research. Ask lots of questions and don’t be afraid to make mistakes because trust me, there is not a modeler out there that doesn’t mess up. I do not have a single model that doesn’t have mistakes. And as always just do it. You can’t learn until you by a kit and start building.
G – Have you a Website/Blog to show your Works?
M -The best place to see my work are on FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/matt.mrozek.1
My YouTube channel has all my finished works as well as tutorials, reviews, and work in progress videos: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-YydVLPmxOZN0mfWAxG8ug
G – Future Projects?
M -I have a ton on my bench right now. I have 4 commissions. The 1st is a Gouf Custom Resin Conversion, 2nd is a MG Sazabi Ver Ka, 3rd is a 1/48 G-System Hyper-Z and 4th is 1/100 Mersa Resin Kshatriya. I will also be collaborating with Toy Maker on a MG Sazabi Ver Ka where he will do all the mods and I will do all the paint work. I am also working on a 1/100 G-System Zeong Conversion as well as a SD resin Kampfer plus like 20 other kits in some sort of progress.
Thank you to Gunjap.net for the opportunity to share my work. Stay tuned for a lot of finished kits in the up coming months
