Gunjap InterviewsHi World, Gunjap Interviews today with Tony Li. Let’s Start!

[G: Gunjap]
[W: Tony Li]

G – Who is Tony Li in the Gunpla Modelers World? And where do you come from?

T – Hello everybody. It’s an honor to be interviewed in this site. [gunjap.net] I’m Tony Li. My online nickname in our Gunpla group is “TonyDesign+”. I come from Hong Kong, and I’m 42 years old.

G – When did you start building Gunpla?
And when did you made your first Custom?

T – I started Gunpla back in 1984. I bought myself a 1/144 scale MSN-02 Zeong. Yes, my favorite MS come from Zeon, rather than EFSF :P). My first custom work was a 1/100 Guntank in 2014, which customized the “real type” color scheme and weathering with RX-78.

G – Do you have some inspiration for your creations?

T – Mainly inspired by the scene from animation and the real world military device. Some “custom-made” illustration give me inspiration as well.

G – After you have finished snap-fitting a model, from where do you start to mod it?

T – I start to Mod it not after finished snap-fitting a model but before I consider to buy. When I go to model shop (window shopping mainly :P), I have already imagined what kind of magic I can play with it and what scene I can create (that’s why I need to buy one or two different box of Gunpla model together). For example, last time I went to model shop, I find a box a Guntank in rack, I already thought how can I make it different, suddenly I remember an illustration I read from the web, so I buy a box of Full Armor RX-78 together to “Mix & Build”. And at the same time, I feel a more “weathering” color scheme, so after the Mixing Build, I repaint the Guntank with the weathering effect too. From my point of view, inspiration is a process of never-ending story, if you really enjoy and make fun during the process.

1003612_380858975388332_464086591_nG – What do you think about Gunpla in all the World? modelers, attitude, modelers behavior etc..

T – Gunpla is a worldwide activity, from people ALL around the World. In order to link up all Gunpla lovers from the world, I create a group “Kidults’s daily”. I found that many Asian Gunpla Modelers have a great model technique but not really know how to make it more presentable by some simple lighting and photo-touching technique. So I would like to have a group to show our member’s works to each other and make more inspiration. I understand that language may be a barrier to some Japanese Modelers, so I made some simple translation to the post as well, so more different country Gunpla-Modelers can share their works and exchange their ideas as well.

G – What do you think about GBWC Event?

T – A great place to exchange Gunpla ideas. One Awesome Gunpla work is better than thousand words. And this kind of event can encourage Gunpla lovers to go out from their own personal studio and make friends. Not only the progress on model technique but to make our “spirit of Gunpla” worldwide too!

G – Please some advices for modelers that wanna start building a Gunpla for the very first time!

T – Nothing to loose to start with any grade of Gunpla. Once you find the feeling of modeling, you will have fun with it and build next. No need to start with any special technique, but you can take a reference what other Gunpla Modelers made. When you find a break-through, which you never made before, you will have a motivation to make next progress.

G – Have you a Website/Blog to show your Works?

T – I have a page for my personal own work, name “Gundam daily”:
And as I mentioned before, we have a group name “Kidult’s daily” to share our Hobby:

G – Future Projects?

T – I will not only build Gunpla but also concentrate on the scene and photo taking. I think that a good picture can make the difference in a finished work. No need too much photo-touching technique (I use Android app to make photo editing rather than Photoshop) but a simple lighting technique is much important for a good shot. I would like to ask more expert to join us to create another page/website to present our ideas and make more communications. Besides, I am glad to take the chance to Gunpla model picture taking for the Gunpla expert who make their own great work without any photo taking now. No matter where they come from, I would like to be friend with them, with our same passion to Gunpla!

G – Many Thanks to Tony Li for this Interview ;-)
See You soon for the next!
