Ghost in the Shell exhibition set for Canada’s AniRevo in August
Translated by The Asahi Shimbun from the website of Anime Anime Japan Ltd.
Anime studio Production I.G Inc. will collaborate with Canada’s Anime Revolution (AniRevo) 2014 to host a special exhibition of the “Ghost in the Shell” series.
Devoted to Japanese anime, comics, cosplay, musical performances and other pop culture trends, AniRevo will be held at the Vancouver Convention Center on Aug. 22-24.
The Vancouver-based fan convention was started in 2011 and has become one of large anime events held in North America, serving as a key platform to promote Japanese anime culture in the region.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Shirow Masamune’s original manga series of the same name, and many exhibitions and musical events are scheduled to take place in Japan.
Exhibits and showings related to “Ghost in the Shell: Arise,” the latest series in the franchise, will be offered at AniRevo 2014.
“I’m deeply honored and very excited to have such a world renowned production company partner with us in our endeavors to promote the culture of Japan to the world,” Can Ngo, president of Anime Revolution Events Inc., said.
The first animated feature film adaptation in the franchise, Mamoru Oshii’s “Ghost in the Shell” was released in 1995 in Japan. It reached the top spot on U.S. Billboard magazine’s video sales chart in 1996.
Oshii went on to direct the sequel, “Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence,” which was screened in competition at the Cannes International Film Festival in 2004.
