Scarlett Johansson has officially signed onto star in Ghost in the Shell !!!
Months after being rumored for the lead role, Scarlett Johansson has officially signed onto star in Ghost in the Shell for director Rupert Sanders. He is best known for the female-led Snow White and the Huntsman, which starred Kristen Stewart.
Based on the popular Japanese anime, Ghost in the Shell follows the adventures of a covert ops unit member from the Japanese National Public Safety Commission who specializes in fighting cyber-related crime. The Amazing Spider-Man producer Avi Arad and Steven Paul are producing the film. Bill Wheeler is writing the screenplay. Mark Sourian will executive produce.
DreamWorks is behind Ghost in the Shell, which has not officially been green lit at this time. Paramount Pictures has the option to come on board as a co-producer of the movie, with a decision to be announced in the coming weeks. Now that Scarlett Johansson is attached, the film, which is a dream project for DreamWorks principal Steven Spielberg, should start moving forward quickly. This news comes on the heels of Lucy taking in over $394 million worldwide this past summer, making Scarlett Johansson one of the few current female actors who can get a movie green lit on her name alone.
