Japanese toy maker Bandai plans to release a 30-centimeter (one-foot) Mazinger Z figure for 36,750 yen (about US$460) this December. DX Soul of Chogokin Mazinger Z is the Soul of Chogokin line’s lastest figure inspired by Go Nagai’s Mazinger Z manga and anime robot. The figure celebrates the 40th anniversary of the launch of Nagai’s original manga and the 15th anniversary of the Soul of Chogokin series.
The toy stands about twice as high as previous Soul of Chogokin and Super Robot Chogokin figures. The arms contain Drill Missiles, and the joint and nozzle for the rocket punch also appear in the elbow design. Hydraulic cylinders in the feet move according to the figure’s pose. LED lights in the head mimic the story robot’s activation sequence and firing of the Photon Beams, while LEDs inside the breastplates simulate the Breast Fire attack. The detailed display hangar features spotlights and cranes.
The figure is made of die-cast Zinc as well as ABS and PVC plastics. The complete set includes a wireless remote and about 30 parts.
In 2009, Bandai unveiled a 60-centimeter (two-foot) Mazinger Z figure that cost 2 million yen (about US$25,200).
Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine serialized Nagai’s original manga from October 1972 to August 1974. The science-fiction series has inspired numerous television anime series, films, video anime, and related manga. (Info via Animenewsnetwork)
